Foreign Update || January 2022
11 January 2022
Greetings to all of our friends and allies around the world! Here's the latest update from your friends in the Empire of Great Britain!
Prime Minister Re-Elected to Second Term
On 4 January 2022, Prime Minister Kalara Sherwood was re-elected to a second term as Prime Minister, with the governing Socialist-Democratic and Labour/British Workers' Coalition sweeping all five seats in the House of Commons. Elected to the House were Kalara Sherwood (SDLP - Vancouver Centre), Vig Somerset (BWP - Bishop Auckland), Anish Hallow-Bauheim (SDLP - Mount Albert), Richard Wright (BWP - South Cambridgeshire), and Joshua Veralius (BWP - Prince Edward Island).
State Opening of Parliament and Speech from the Throne
Following the Prime Minister's re-election, HM King William V delivered the customary Speech from the Throne, outlining the government's agenda for the term.
My Lords and Members of the House of Commons,
My Government shall continue the work begun last term, and delayed by the Prime Minister’s unfortunate illness, of modernizing and updating our legislative corpus in its entirety.
My Government shall commence interregional festivals with our treaty allies and other partners throughout the term.
My Government will introduce an act granting legislative autonomy to Greater London through the Greater London Council within the first week of term.
My Government will expand and create measures to induce activity, as well as measures to increase the recruitment and onboarding of new citizens to the Realm.
My Government will introduce executive orders and legislation to ensure that the onsite portion of the realm is not left behind in the new activity push.
My Government shall continue its measures of transparency and accountability, and produce legislation to this end.
Members of the House of Commons, estimates for the public services will be laid before you.
My Lords and Members of the House of Commons, other measures will be laid before you.
I pray that the blessing of Almighty God may rest upon your counsels.
House of Commons Debates London Devolution
The first item on the Prime Minister's legislative agenda is the Greater London Assembly Act, which will create a roleplay legislature themed after the real-life London Assembly. This devolved legislature would be open to all citizens and provide opportunities for newer citizens to learn the ropes of the legislative process.

2021 - The Year in Review
2021 was an exciting year in the Empire of Great Britain. We started the year off with the most hotly contested General Election in our history. We saw four Prime Ministers and five sessions of Parliament come and go. In July, President Hindu Puri of India became the first foreign Head of State to address a joint session of Parliament. In August, we celebrated HM the King's first jubilee. We replaced our long-standing Constitution with a set of Acts of Union, officially transferring the Empire into an organic law system. A regional economy came and went. We reached an all-time high of 482 nations. Through all the hurdles that 2021 had to throw at us, we emerged stronger than ever. We look forward to continuing to grow our relationships with our friends and allies in 2022!
Sincerely yours,
Vig Somerset
