10 March 2022
Greetings to all of our friends and allies around the world! Here's the latest update from your friends in the Empire of Great Britain!
Elections
Summary
Elections to the House of Commons took place in February, new members were appointed to the House of Lords by the King and a new Prime Minister passed our traditional test and was appointed to the highest elected executive office in the Empire of Great Britain. The final Parliament consists of no less than ten people, making it one of the largest parliaments in size to date. Within the Empire of Great Britain, we are very pleased with this development. No votes were required in the election because there was no counter-candidate for the eventual Prime Minister and there were as many candidates for the House of Commons as there were seats to be allocated. Four of these five seats were ultimately won by the British Workers Party, which has been in existence since June 2020, and with this absolute majority and supplying the new Prime Minister has proven to be still crucial within the Empire of Great Britain. The remaining seat initially went to the Social-Democratic and Labor Party, but this parliamentarian eventually decided to move to the newly founded Commonwealth Non-Aligned Alliance party, which also has a member in Parliament.
A renewed mix of experienced and new members in Parliament
The House of Commons will see a number of Members of Parliament who were present as well in the previous session of Parliament, including the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Victor Somerset of York Central, the Right Honourable Joshua Veralius or Prince Edward Isle, who served as Speaker in the previous session of Parliament, and the Right Honourable Andrew Wright-James of the Cities of London and Westminster, who previously served as Speaker of the House of Commons, and again has that term before. The new faces in the House of Commons are the Right Honorable Sirch Leftand Halifax, who already had experience in the executive branch, and the Right Honorable Ulrich Bauheim, who sat on the green benches a long time ago but has returned to our delight.
The House of Lords again contains the same Lords as in the previous session. However, two additions have taken place that, together, will also form the presidency within the House of Lords. Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Rothesay, Elizabeth Somerset, will serve as Lady Speaker and Baron Holland, who has obtained this title on a temporary basis, will serve as the Senior Deputy Speaker.
His Majesty’s new Government
The new Prime Minister is the Right Honourable Victor Somerset, who has held this office three times before, and now has the right to form another Government in the name of His Majesty the King William V. In this cabinet, the former Home Secretary, the Honourable Sirch Leftand Halifax, will once again return in this capacity, but also gained the confidence to become First Secretary of State. We also saw the Right Honourable Joshua Veralius return as Culture Secretary. Two new additions can also be found in the cabinet, namely, the Honourable Ulrich Bauheim, who will advise the cabinet as Special Advisor, and the Right Honourable James Somerset, who as a former Prime Minister has sufficient experience to fill the position of Foreign Secretary once more this term.
Legislative activity
Within the region, after the opening of the 17th session of Parliament, there is a tremendous amount of legislative activity to be seen. In the first two weeks, the House of Lords and the House of Commons jointly introduced no fewer than five new bills and a resolution and held a confirmation hearing for the newly appointed Associate Justice, the Right Honourable James Somerset, as well.
The following bills have been introduced and have the aforementioned current status:
- Household Division Act 2022, which has obtained royal assent, and with it a role-playing oriented ceremonial military division has been established that will take care of the daily changing of the guards at the royal residences and which will participate in official state affairs;
- Statutory Interpretations Act 2022, which is currently before His Majesty King William V to obtain Royal Assent, and would rank legislative instruments;
- Education Act 2022, which has been passed by the House of Lords and the House of Commons, but is back before the House of Lords due to an amendment;
- British Overseas Territories Act 2022, which has since been passed by the House of Lords and is now before the House of Commons where it appears to be able to count on a majority, and would ensure that on-site nations play a greater role within the region;
- Citizenship Amendment Act 2022, currently being subject of debate within the House of Lords, would ensure that activity within Discord would also be included within the activity requirements within the Empire of Great Britain, and those holders of on-site nations without citizenship obtain the title of resident instead of visitor;
- Treasury Act 2022, which has since been passed by the House of Commons, but seems to be stranded in the House of Lords at the request of the initiator because a new forum is being worked on, in which no economy plug-in is present;
- Standing Orders Resolution 2022, which has since been passed by the House of Commons and is therefore in effect, ensures that members of Parliament can continuously ask parliamentary questions to the Prime Minister and other ministers of the Crown.
Stamp Campaign
A stamp campaign is being reintroduced within the Empire of Great Britain. His Majesty's Government has revealed this intention and will attempt to reach more newcomers who would like to join our community within the Empire of Great Britain through a stamp campaign. Two donors are already known and it is expected that they will soon start sending telegrams to invite people.
New BBC Team
After the new Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Victor Somerset, was appointed Prime Minister, he resigned from his post as Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation, the official medium of independent news within the Empire of Great Britain. Subsequently, the Prime Minister appointed Charles Holland who restructured the British Broadcasting Corporation and has since broadcast several programs related to Parliament and its parliamentarians.
