Foreign Update || March 2022
11 April 2022
Greetings to all of our friends and allies around the world! Here's the latest update from your friends in the Empire of Great Britain!
By-Elections
The month of March was ushered in with a by-election after the Honourable Ulrich Bauheim made known that he should focus more on everyday life and no longer had a legislative agenda after it became clear that his Treasury Act 2022 would fail due to the lack of an economy plug-in in the intended new forum. For the sake of completeness: it was later decided not to start a transition to a new forum.
Two candidates registered for the by-election, William Dawhill, from the British Workers' Party to which the Honourable Ulrich Bauheim also belonged, and Jeeve Sal Alohim, from the Commonwealth Non-Aligned Alliance. Ultimately, the British Workers' Party retained its seat. William Dawhill was elected to Parliament.
Return of Citizen of the Month
His Majesty's Government also organized a Citizen of the Month election in March for the first time in a long time. Charles Holland was elected for February and James Somerset has been elected Citizen of the Month for March. Charles Holland was nominated because ''he has done exceptionally well, introducing many important and progressive bills for the House of Lords to debate on and for being ''on the forefront of the region constantly, active every day, without avail.'' James Somerset was nominated for ''his contributions as Foreign Secretary and more recently as Associate Justice and World Assembly Delegate''.
Appointment of the Archbishop of Canterbury
After the office of Archbishop of Canterbury had been a vacant for a long time, this came to an end with the appointment of Baron St. John as Archbishop of Canterbury. The aim of the new Archbishop is to renovate the Church of England into a place for less politically interested people to connect and to provide healing to those who need it. The Archbishop of Canterbury has also appointed the Rector of St. Martin-within-Ludgate, Lord Albert Wellesley.
Festivals
In March and early April, two multi-day interregional festivals were held at the initiative of His Majesty's Government. The first festival took place from March 26 to 29 and was co-organized with the region of India, and the second festival took place with The Great North, between April 3 and 6. Both festivals were well attended and significantly strengthened the relations between our regions and India and The Great North.
Legislative activity
In the Parliament, several laws were passed and rejected during the month of March and several resolutions were also discussed and passed. The House of Lords introduced the British Overseas Territories Act 2022, the Education Act 2022, the Household Division Act 2022, the Parliament Act Amendment Act 2022, the Government Formation Act Repeal Act 2022 and the Citizenship Amendment Act 2022. As well as two resolutions, both to appoint the Rt Hon Viscount Spencer James Somerset, as WA Delegate in one and as Associate Justice in the second, and a third resolution, to amend the standing orders of the House of Lords. The House of Commons introduced the revised Property Act 2022 and the British Broadcasting Corporation Charter Act 2022 as well as the Treasury Act 2022. The Citizenship Amendment Act 2022 and the Treasury Act 2022 are the only bills that failed in March. Furthermore, Lord Albert Wellesley was appointed once more as Lord within the House of Lords.
