Election fever!
The latest election was incredibly close. With multiple candidates withdrawing from the race or being disqualified for not making a campaign speech, only six candidates remained. Four BWP candidates and two DUP candidates. The BWP won four seats whilst the DUP won one seat, a first for the party, however the new DUP party leader, August Tudor-Stuart, failed to win a seat, losing narrowly to Anish Evans-Jones. The new BWP leader, Joshua Veralius, became the new PM.
Opposition Merges!
Another major event was when the two opposition parties, the DUP and CNA, merged. The CNA had been lacking activity and merged into the DUP. This was excellent news for the DUP as they solidified their position as an opposition party. Whether or not the DUP can form a proper opposition remains to be seen.
BWP Leadership Shake up
In the past two months there have been three BWP leaders. The BWP is the ruling party and so this was a worrying statistic. James and Charles Somerset both resigned last term and the new leader Joshua Veralius might spell a new age for the BWP. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen but we are hopeful.
The Jubilee
Our monarch, King William V celebrated his two year jubilee earlier this year. During his speech he expressed his gratitude for EoGB and his intention to abdicate on the first of October. This would mean that the Duchess of Rothesay and Princess of Wales Elizabeth would become Sovereign although whether or not she would take the regnal name of Elizabeth III remains to be seen.
Statement from HM about the death of Queen Elizabeth II
Normally, I'd format this as myself as Sovereign. I've decided, out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II, to forgo such. It doesn't feel right to do so anyway. Anyone who's been in this community for any length of time or had any sort of political discussion with me will know me as a staunch anti-monarchist. But, I have deep and great respect for the Woman that wore the Crown of the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth is the longest serving British Sovereign, acceding the throne at 25 and serving for 70 years. Only two years shy of Louis XIV, the longest serving Monarch ever. A paragon of not just a Sovereign, but of a Head of State. A person that any Head of State, elected or not, should model themselves after. She ruled with Humility, Grace, and Dignity. Always duty-minded and cognizant of her position but never lording it over her people as Monarchs of history have done.
When the news broke of Queen Elizabeth's poor health, I was glued to a BBC live stream, Even creating an account with them to watch BBC television live. It got me thinking how much I modeled my own reign after Elizabeth. The humility I have for my position, in case you didn't know, is through the silliness I bring to the table. It's never that I don't take my IC position very seriously, I always do, It's that I hold the same humility that Elizabeth held for her position. "Your Loyal Servant" is a sign-off I have oft used in statements. A practice also done by Queen Elizabeth. Now, don't think I'm comparing myself to her. I don't hold a candle to Queen Elizabeth. I'm just a faux monarch in a silly little game. But it would be wrong of me not to be cognizant and appreciative of the effect she had on me personally. And I thank her for that. As I'm sure Britain and the World thanks her for her impact on them.
